District 42

The 42nd Senate District encompasses all of Delaware and Sullivan Counties, and portions of Orange and Ulster Counties, including Port Jervis, Middletown, New Paltz, Saugherties and Woodstock. Democrats surpassed Republicans in voter enrollment in the district in the last ten years, and Democratic candidates at the top of the ticket performed well in recent elections. The results of down ballot Congressional and Assembly races were mixed. Republican John Bonacic represents the district.

John Bonacic, Republican

A twelve-year incumbent, John Bonacic supported the leadership of convicted felon Joe Bruno and helped to create Albany’s culture of deals, deficits and dysfunction. He is a tax-and-spend Republican, and during his tenure state spending increased from $66 billion to $116 billion.
