District 47
The 47th Senate District encompasses all of Lewis County and portions of Oneida and St. Lawrence Counties, including portions of the city of Rome. Republicans maintain a slim advantage over Democrats in voter enrollment in the district. John McCain defeated Barack Obama in the district during the 2008 election, though in the past two cycles Congressional and Assembly races in the district were split between parties. Republican Senator Joe Griffo currently represents the district.
Joe Griffo, Republican
Elected to office in 2006, Joe Griffo is a two-term incumbent. In 2010, he joined with fellow Republicans to help kill the strongest ethics reform bill in a generation.
