The 49th Senate District encompasses all of Madison County and parts of Cayuga, Oneida and Onondaga Counties, including portions of Syracuse and Auburn. Democrats surpassed Republicans in voter enrollment in the district during the last decade, and Democrats performed well at the top of the ticket here during recent elections. Down ballot Congressional and Assembly races were more evenly split between the parties.
