District 61

The 61st Senate District encompasses all of Genesee County and parts of Erie County, including parts of Tonawanda and Amherst. Over the last decade, Democrats have all but eliminated the Republican voter enrollment advantage in the district. Democratic candidates have generally out performed Republicans at the top of the ticket, though Republican candidates were strongly favored in local Assembly races. Republican Michael Ranzenhofer currently represents the district.

Michael Ranzenhofer, Republican

Senator Ranzenhofer is finishing his freshman term in the New York State Senate. During the current term he has failed to work with Democrats in a bipartisan fashion to solve the issues facing the state, and joined with fellow Republicans to help kill the strongest ethics reform legislation in a decade.
