District 62

The 62nd Senate District encompasses all of Orleans County and portions of Niagara and Monroe Counties, including parts of Rochester. Republicans maintain a narrow and shrinking voter enrollment advantage in the district. President Obama lost the district to John McCain in 2008, but Democrats and Republicans have generally split elections up and down the ticket in recent years. Republican George Maziarz currently represents the district.

George Maziarz, Republican

George Maziarz is a fifteen-year incumbent who supported the failed leadership of the Pataki/Bruno era and helped create Albany’s culture of deals, deficits and dysfunction. As a tax-and-spend Republican, he has voted hundreds of times to raise taxes. During his tenure in office, state spending almost doubled, rising from $62 billion to over $116 billion. In 2010, he joined with fellow Republicans to help kill the strongest ethics reform legislation in a generation.
