Campaign Finance Filings Show Record Strength for New York Senate Dems
Jul 15, 2010(New York, NY) - The New York Democratic Senate Campaign Committee today reported historic cash on hand numbers ahead of the July fundraising deadline. The DSCC will file with $3.5 million on hand for the six-month period, heading into the election with a significant cash advantage.
“We are raising more money than ever before, competing in more regions of the state than ever before, and engaging with campaigns earlier than ever before. That's why, in November, Democrats will win more seats than ever before," said Sen. Jeff Klein, DSCC chair. "Today’s filing clearly shows that New Yorkers recognize that we have begun the work of putting government back in the hands of the people."
The filing also represents an overwhelming desire by New Yorkers to expand the Democratic majority in Albany.
"Over the past nineteen months, New Yorkers have become fed up with Republican obstructionism, have recognized that growing our Democratic majority is the key to putting state government back on track and, consequently, have supported the DSCC in record numbers," said Josh Cherwin, DSCC Executive Director.
Already, Senate Dems have thousands of volunteers in the field, knocking on doors, distributing literature, and talking with voters on behalf of the 2010 slate of candidates. Additionally, Senate Dems have blanketed dozens of districts with tens of thousands of pieces of direct mail and countless telephone calls.
"We are encouraged by these numbers and the support we have received so far," said Cherwin. "But we know there is a lot of hard work ahead."
Key Facts:
- The Senate Dems have picked up seats continually in every major general and special election cycle since 2004 (2004 General Election, 2006 General Election, 2007 7th SD Special Election, 2008 48th SD Special Election, 2008 General Election).
- The $3.5 Million cash on hand is more than twice the previous record the DSCC had in July of 2008 ($1,507,695 on hand). That year, the Senate Dems went on to pick up two seats and win control of the Senate.
- In January 2010, the DSCC had $1.9 million cash on hand and the Senate Republican Campaign Committee only had $963,415.01 cash on hand.
