Joanne Yepsen Seeks State Senate, End of Dysfunction In Albany
Apr 29, 2010(Saratoga Springs, NY) – Joanne Yepsen announced today her candidacy for the 43rd state senate district seat. Citing partisan infighting and continued dysfunction in Albany, the current Saratoga County Supervisor vowed to take a stand for the people of Rensselaer and Saratoga.
“Last summer the New York State Senate held all of New York State hostage,” Yepsen stated outside the Hilton in Saratoga. “At a time when one voice could have put an end to the circus in Albany, our Senator stood silent.”
Yepsen continued, citing the 44 years of Republican tax hikes that have cost taxpayers billions of dollars in lost income. The inaction of elected leaders in Albany has left taxpayers carrying the burden, she stressed. As Senator, Yepsen would seek to reduce property taxes, eliminate government waste, stop special interest groups from pillaging state funds, and work to deliver real opportunities for businesses and jobs throughout the district.
“Small businesses make up more than half our state’s workforce,” Yepsen said, citing the fact that New York ranks second to last in tax climate for businesses. “Yet everyday I hear from small business owners on how it is becoming more difficult to work in New York State.”
“To say that New York State government is broken is an understatement. It’s fractured to the point where our own local economy is threatened by partisan gridlock,” said Yepsen. “I am here today with a message to our state’s elected officials. We need to stop the politics and get to work – the people’s work.” Yepsen is also committed to government transparency. As Saratoga Supervisor, she hosts regular open meetings with constituents and restructured her office’s online and direct mail capabilities to more effectively communicate with local residents.
In her capacity as Supervisor, Yepsen also worked to bring sustainable, green jobs and planning to Saratoga by supporting the County Green Infrastructure planning, helping to launch Sustainable Saratoga, and working to preserve the Saratoga Race Track.
Yepsen is also a highly successful entrepreneur, launching her own development and marketing firm for non-profit organizations in 2001.
The 43rd Senate district includes parts of Saratoga County and Rensselaer County.
